On this episode of Gritty Bowmen we meet with CrossFit Games Athlete, Chris Spealler. Chris recently qualified for the 2017 games in the newly formed 35-39 year-old Masters Level Men’s competition. We at Gritty Bowmen will be rooting for him in August!

Chris and I discuss exercise myths, his experience with over training and how to prevent injury and still maintain your fitness if you are working through an injury.

Chris is a former college wrestler from a family of standout athletes, Chris Spealler quickly became one of CrossFit’s leading ambassadors, impressing and inspiring newcomers to the sport with his underdog spirit, unequaled work ethic, and warm personality. A competitor at the very first CrossFit Games in 2007. He was the only performer from the ’07 Games who was also in the 2014 games.

Spealler continues to train and coach at CrossFit Park City in Utah, where he lives with his wife Sarah and their two children.

Chris has just started his own podcast called Icon Athlete Podcast. If you want to learn more about fitness or just like Chris Spealler, do me a favor, and go and subscribe to his podcast. Check it out!

Hello folks, on this episode of Gritty Bowmen I was able to hang out with my friends from Rockhouse motion--Aaron Hitchins, Dustin Lutt and Logan Ross. Sometimes you meet someone who’s work you’ve admired. Or an individual you’ved looked up to because of the message they’ve shared or the principles they stand for. And so in your mind you’ve built them up into something special--and then you meet them and you’re utterly disappointed. They’re not who you thought they were and you feel totally let down. BUT, then there’s the opposite… you meet that person and they’re even cooler than you expected. They’re a breath of fresh air and you feel fortunate to have met them. Well… that’s how I feel about Rockhouse Motion--they’re remarkably talented, quirky, creative, deep-thinking, down-to-earth folks that I feel blessed to know. On this episode of Gritty Bowmen we talk about Logan’s hunting season--being a new hunter who has never killed an animal; we talk about her thoughts and experiences from this past season. Dustin shares his thoughts on having a wife how hunts. And we learn a little more about the stark differences in personality between Dustin and Aaron and how they hunt differently. This is a late night conversation in a hotel room after pulling some long days at the ATA Show earlier this year. I thoroughly enjoy these late-night conversations with excellent people. Sit in and take a listen. And if you haven’t seen their films or are not familiar with their work, go check out the film, Beyond The Roar ; you’ll be glad you did.

Hello friends, on EPISODE 251 of the Gritty Bowmen podcast we had the pleasure of hanging out with my friends Ryan and Hillary Lampers from the Hunt Harvest Health podcast to talk testosterone, gut health, diet and more. That same evening, Ryan and Hillary joined me in a discussion with my good friend, and backcountry food aficionado, Heather Kelly, the maker of Heather’s Choice Backcountry Meals. The 4 of us nerd-out on backcountry food and discuss our shared passion for good eating in the backcountry. Heather is a nutrition expert in her own right and she spares no expense in the creation of her backcountry meals and it shows in her products. I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to interview both Heather Kelly and Ryan and Hillary all together on the same AWESOME episode of Gritty Bowmen. Check it out! If you like this episode and you want more like it, let Heather and Hillary and Ryan know how you feel. I hope this episode gets you excited to try some of Heather’s products and to start experimenting with some of your own meals at home.

On this episode of Gritty Bowmen we meet with Ryan and Hillary Lampers of Hunt, Harvest, Health.

So… about a month back--Aron Snyder hit the big 4-0. And I’m well on my way to 43. We’re not exactly old, but we’re not spring chickens either. We’re fit for two older guys--in fact, we’re in better shape now than we were in our early 30s--and we’re pretty happy about that. But father-time isn’t backing down and it’s more important than ever to live well--both physically and emotionally. And that’s why I’m pleased to have Doctor Hillary Lampers and my good buddy Ryan Lampers, aka Donnie Vincent Lampers, on today’s episode of Gritty Bowmen. Ryan is an absolute stud when it comes to bowhunting public lands. And his wife Hillary is a doctor--but not your regular, everyday, run of the mill doctor that I generally mistrust except in the case of dire emergencies; Hillary is the kind of doctor that actually treats root causes of physical distress instead of simply prescribing drugs to treat symptoms.

Hillary and Ryan started a podcast this past December called Hunt Harvest Health--and I’m so glad they did! I’ve been listening to their podcasts on backcountry meal prep, gardening, testosterone, cortisol and other hormones, gut health and the second brain, hunting and more.  This past year has been a whirlwind of life-changing events for me. Admittedly, I’m not as fit or feeling quite as froggy as I did a year ago.

If you’ve got little kids around while you’re listening to this podcast, you may want to revisit this episode when they’re not around. This is a talk about health--it’s not time to be squeamish. We talk about things like poop, S.E.X., how to increase testosterone, love languages, etc. You’ve been warned.

Some of you may be thinking that this “health stuff” is boring or that this medical talk is way too complex--but it’s really not--and I truly believe it is life-changing information. So I encourage you to buck-up and take notes. And when you’re done with this podcast, go subscribe to the HUNT HARVEST HEALTH PODCAST and continue learning how to feed your Temple of Power.

This episode of Gritty Bowmen is coming at you from Whale Pass  on Prince of Wales Island in South East Alaska. Our guest is our friend Ken Brough. Ken is a quiet unassuming guy, but if you spend a little time with him you quickly realize there's more to this man than meets the eye. He’s an accountant by trade but an adventurer at heart. He’s been to some of the most remote areas of Alaska. He’s hunted brown bear, caribou, goat, and sheep to Sitka blacktail and big coastal black bears that Prince of Wales if famous for. A couple years ago Ken quit his accounting practice  and started a hunting outfit in whale pass on the island. He calls his outfit Prince of Wales Eagle Lodge. We purchased lodging at his place for two weeks. Ken caters to the DIY hunters who want to do everything on their own, as well as those who wish to be catered to. He basically set us up with a  place to sleep, a car to drive and a skiff to cruise the ocean shores with. On this episode we learn more about Ken. The enigmatic accountant/bush pilot. He tells us a few good stories about his adventures and the harrowing adventures of others who have explored Alaska’s wild frontier. Ken shares his knowledge about bears and about POW island and he talks about what drew him to the island. We talk bout the difficulty of judging the bears and the best time to fish the island. It’s good stuff. I hope you enjoy hanging out with this quiet unassuming man as much as we did. If you’re planning a trip to POW island give Ken and his lodge a look. You can find him on instagram @EagleLodgeAlaska. Give him a follow and checkout his website EagleLodgeAlaska.com

According to Aron, “Marc has killed more things than small pox.” Marc’s main focus is on hunting Mule deer although he is excited to get to hunt Elk this year. We also talk about judging yardage and whether or not it’s ethical to not use a range finder. Checkout Episode 102 to see more backstory of Muley Slayer, Marc Smith. He gives us a glimpse of a less experienced Aron Snyder and how he first cut his teeth on Colorado mule deer. And Aron shares some great stories from their past.
