Ok folks. This episode of the Gritty Bowmen is probably NOT for everyone. If you’re looking for a reverent podcast about hunting and the outdoors--skip this episode. But if you want to hang out with a group of hunting buddies who know waaaaay too much about eachother, talk a little crap, and don’t pull any punches--this episode might be worth your time. The key word is “might.” We recorded this podcast in the hotel room, after midnight on the last night of the ATA show. It was supposed to be a re-cap of the ATA show and a podcast with Sean Degray about the Total Archery Challenge. However, the podcast quickly circled the drain and just became a series of squirrel chases and fresh Snyderisms. I seriously considered nevering publishing this podcast--EVER. But heck, why not. What you see is what you get. And that’s gritty.

There is a little bonus footage at the very end of this podcast… we were going to throw it away but then I figured… the bonus footage is about as useless as the rest of this podcast so why not just leave it in there.

You have been warned.

On this episode of the Gritty Bowmen Aron and Brian take a sick day. They both have been sick after weeks of shows and Aron celebrated his birthday by getting bronchitis and a sinus infection. He’s an over-achiever. ;) This episode does not have any video to accompany it due to technical difficulties and they both look like Rudolph.

Aron and Brian talk about their recent podcast with Tim Gillingham, Rihana and Ty Cary and more. They also talk more about Aron’s venture into traditional bowhunting.

On this episode of Gritty Bowmen we hang out with Daniel Lee Martin and Julie McQueen of Brotherhood Outdoors-- A TV show of the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance. In the show, Daniel Lee Martin and Julie McQueen are joined by hardworking union members on once-in-a-life

time hunting or fishing trips.

From the moment Daniel and Jules put their headsets on I was laughing. They were really easy to talk to and the chemistry between them was obvious--they’re like besties. And it’s contagious. These are fun people. They spend a lot of time road-trippin’ in their trailer. You can catch up with them on social media--it’s fun to see what they’re up to next. And Jules posts some great stuff on her Instagram @julesmcqueen. I hope you enjoy meeting these two as much as did.

On this episode of Gritty Bowmen we meet with a couple who met on Facebook! I know… CRAZY. And we hear about how Ty Cary, seduced Rihana with a well executed elk call. Now that’s true love. Seriously though, this couple is legit. Rihana doesn’t mess around when it comes to hunting--she gets it done. In this podcast we hear about the big bull elk Rihana killed, solo, with a bow; which, I’m not gonna lie, totally impressed me. Ty wasn’t able to hunt with Rihana during her elk hunt because he was off filming other hunts under his company Standing Buck Productions. Ty is a talented camerman and producer. I hope you enjoy getting to know these two as much as did.

On this episode of Gritty Bowmen, I am joined by Aron Snyder and Tim Gillingham. Tim is one of the most accomplished tournament archers in the world--with numerous wins at the national tournament level, he has won the IBO World Championship, ASA World Championship, NFAA 3-D championships and the NFAA Pro Shooter of the Year Award Reading from the Hamskea Archery website, it says: Ever the perfectionist with the attitude that there is always a "better way" to do things, Tim is a constant tinkerer and has come to be one of the foremost authorities in the archery world today. One of Tim’s greatest attributes is his honesty and he is the most accessible pro archer in the entire industry. Ask Tim his opinion about any archery related topic and you’d better be ready to handle the truth.
And so, as you can imagine--he and Aron Snyder are quite the combination. Don’t ask their opinions if you don’t want their answers. In this podcast, Tim tells it like it is. He drops some serious knoweldge--try to keep up.

Wishes For Warriors

On this episode of Gritty Bowmen we visit with a GIANT man--Bryan Marshall, founder of Wishes For Warriors. And I’m not kidding. His head his huge. He’s built like a tank. He walks sideways through doors… or perhaps, he just kicks them in. We also meet with his two amigos and wounded warriors, Corey Garmon and Cameron  Stuart. We learn about his foundation, Wishes for Warriors, and how they’re making a difference in the lives of wounded veterans. These guys are solid. I’ve been known to complain, on occasion, about leg cramps, blisters, and chaffing… and I feel like it’s justified… until I meet someone like Corey Garmon. The dude is a triple amputee and he’s out hiking the hills and killing big bulls. These guys straight-up inspire. To learn more about Wishes For Warriors and how you can be a part of it, checkout our show notes on the Gritty Bowmen website.

On this episode of Gritty Bowmen, we visit with Jana Waller and Jim Kinsey of SkullboundTV. Many of you know them from Skullbound TV. But you may not know that Camerman-Jimmy, AKA Jim Kinsey is a musical maestro. Homie’s got some sic beats--you can hear some of his music on iTunes. Look for the link in the Gritty Bowmen show notes on our website.  https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/kryptek-overcome-single/id1069999245

Jim and Jana are huge proponents of conservation. And in their show, they take the time to highlight how hunting IS conservation. Jim was in the marines. And he and Jana are actively involved in supporting U.S. veterans. It was my pleasure meeting them.

On this episode of Gritty Bowmen, we hang out with my new friend, Tim Burnett, of Solo Hunter. I’m a huge fan of Solo Hunter. If you don’t like the show, I don’t know what’s wrong with you. Solo Hunter is Gritty. The raw, Do It Yourself Nature of the show really appeals to me. In the show, Tim and Remi Warren are both the hunter AND the cameraman. That’s intense. I can barely film a hunt when we’ve got a full-time cameraman--I can’t even imagine trying to pull it off while trying to shoot an animal. Tim was easy to talk to. And he’s pretty much the same guy you see on the show--real gritty and down to earth.

In this podcast we meet with my Uncle Kevin Call and John Adams of High Point Outfitters guide service in Arizona.  Kevin and John and their team of guides are genuine, down to earth, hard working, smart hunters that are passionate about hunting and helping others be successful.  Unless it’s your wife, then things might get a little too intense. ;) They get real about what it’s like to hunt with a significant other and how sometimes it’s best to take a backseat, or you might end up sleeping in the doghouse.

They provide some tips and tricks on how to register for Arizona this coming year with the recent changes for 2016, as well as some of the changes in Colorado.

On this episode of Gritty Bowmen, we travel to Louisville Kentucky to attend the ATA trade show--ATA stands for Archery Trade Association. The ATA Trade Show is the archery and bowhunting industry’s LARGEST show. The show is a member-driven event to promote commerce within the archery and bowhunting industry.

In today’s podcast we visit with Eva Shockey. Eva’s dad, Jim Shockey, is one of the most well-known hunters in the world. Today, Eva co-hosts "Jim Shockey's Hunting Adventures" TV show and represents the Shockey family at outdoor trade and consumer shows.

Eva was a breathe of fresh air. She was easy to talk to, down to earth, and an excellent ambassador for hunting--challenging the stereotypical image of the knuckle-dragging, fist pumping, male hunter; Eva makes it difficult for those against hunting to claim that hunters are uneducated, heartless, animal-hating human beings. And for this, I thank her.

I hope you enjoy the show.

Our friend Corey Jacobsen is killing-it with some of the best elk-hunting information and entertainment on the web. Elk101 is a true gold-mine of all things elk.

And Let me leave you with another great quote from Theodore Roosevelt who said, “It behooves every man to reemember that the work of the critic is of altogether secondary importance, and that, in the end, progress is accomplished by the man who does things.”

We all have a choice--we can be people who do things or people who criticise the work of others. It’s pretty simple really.. don’t be jerk. And get out there and do your thing.

Good luck on your hunts. And Stay Gritty!

Sadie Kennel has been hunting for about 7 years. She was born and raised in Idaho. What drives Sadie Kennel to hunt?

Sadie gets real about what it’s like to hunt in late season and what it’s like to hunt with her boyfriend, Jason Wright of Pure Elevation Productions.

Here's a little sample of today's podcast.

Sadie: My boot’s wet and he (Jason) gets the jetboil out and he’s trying to dry out my boot with the open flame and that’s not working. So finally he pulls out his dry sack that he has for his sleeping bag and says, “Here put this on”… I finally get out of the tent and I shove my foot in this dry bag and put it in my boot and I have my jetboil full of coffee and I’m just like dragging my feet over to the spot and it’s foggy… and we get there and I kinda see this weird silhouette. I thought it was a tree. It turns out it wasn’t a tree it was a deer.

Brian: How dramatically does that improve your mood?

Sadie: Oh instantly! It was like throw my pack off, gettin’ my crap together and I’m like, “Where are we sitting? Let’s do this!”
